KMAC is psyched to offer an avalanche safety for mountaineers course this winter.

Mountaineers account for about 10% of avalanche fatalities. Traditional avalanche courses don’t cater well to mountaineers. Mountaineers are stuck on snowshoes if they don’t ski and the content is based on skiing, not climbing safely. This year, KMAC is offering an AIARE Level 1 avalanche course specific to mountaineers. The course is four days as opposed to three, will be expeditionary in nature and based out of Rocky Mountain National Park and is catered specifically to climbers.

We will head into the field and set up a base camp where we will learn first-hand about avalanche safety and winter climbing. Over the days we will work our way higher and higher, with an eventual summit attempt, as we learn about climbing safely in unstable environments.

Come join us April 27 through 30 2017
