AMGA ACCREDITED BUSINESS

Since 1987 KMAC Guides (Formerly Kent Mountain Adventure Center) has been offering rock climbing and mountaineering instruction for individuals and groups of all ages. We also provide outdoor education programs for schools. KMAC Guides is an accredited business member of the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). AMGA program accreditation demonstrates that KMAC Guides complies and operates within rigorous industry standards for climbing schools and guide services.

It’s not necessarily what we do at KMAC Guides that is unusual. It is our approach to our profession that sets us apart. While we hold ourselves to the high technical demands of the AMGA’s Scope of Practice, we aim for that level of skill to just be in the background. Up front, where we meet our guests is our passion for teaching in the mountains. Our goal isn’t just to get people from A to B safely, but to help them figure out how to do that on their own, and have the time of their life in the process.

Our Guides

Our guides are the reason for our respected professional reputation. Our guides would cite their passion for climbing and love of teaching as one of the most satisfying parts of their lives. On a daily basis they positively impact their students and guests and see the rewards that they experience. But KMAC Guides staff are more than just guides — they are role models, teachers, professional career guides, climbing coaches, child care professionals, and outdoor activity specialists. Many are masters of Leave No Trace and Interpretation. They strive to role model the importance of having passion and integrity in living. Minimum age for a lead guide is 23. All lead guides are certified Wilderness First Responders and are trained and/or certified by the American Mountain Guides Association which guarantees rigorous and uniform guide training.
